Mansion 5K Run

May 5th, 2008

I am really getting excited about our developing plans for the Mansion 5K run that will take place on Saturday, August 30, during our 55th Anniversary Alumni Homecoming. The Tupelo Running Club has come on board and is sponsoring this race as an official event. Hundreds are expected to participate. Many corporate sponsors are getting behind us with their support.

I am in training and hope to not only run the 5K, but to also run a 10K (6.2 miles) or Half-Marathon (13 miles) in a special effort to raise a lot of money for the Mansion. I’m planning to run in the Tupelo Gum Tree 10K race on May 10. I’ve never done anything like this before, so it’s a new challenge.

I turn 55 next month. Think about this—I’m the same age as the Mansion!  We were both born in 1953, right here in Tupelo. That is a little known fact. Many people know that Tupelo is the birthplace of Elvis, but not many know that I was born here.

To help us celebrate the Mansion and me turning 55 this year, I’m asking you to sponsor me as we go the “extra mile” to help the kids at the Mansion. A special Web site will be launched soon where you can register to run in the race, or make a donation or pledge of sponsorship.
